Ocala Electric Utility — OEU — is the municipal electric utility for the City of Ocala in Marion County. OEU is administratively distinct from Duke Energy (which serves most of Marion County outside city limits) and SECO (which serves much of rural Marion). OEU’s service is concentrated within Ocala city limits.

OEU’s service territory covers:
– City of Ocala — most/all addresses within city limits
– Adjacent unincorporated — limited; confirm current boundary with Ocala Electric Utility
OEU is NOT Duke and NOT SECO. Marion County hosts multiple electric utilities — verify from your power bill.
If you’re an OEU customer, your net metering tariff is set by the Ocala city council, not the FL Public Service Commission.
Ocala Electric net metering: the basics
- Eligibility: Customer-sited residential PV at premises within OEU territory
- System size cap: Per OEU Renewable Generation Credit (RGC) tariff; confirm current cap at application
- Bill credit structure: Per current tariff
- Annual true-up: IMPORTANT — OEU uses Renewable Generation Credit (RGC), which is explicitly NOT a 1:1 monetary credit for exported kWh. RGC credits are applied to offset OEU’s generation cost component, not at full retail. Customers pay distribution charges regardless. Confirm current RGC rate and true-up methodology at application; the economics differ meaningfully from FPL-style NEM.
- Interconnection application: Required before installation
- PTO process: OEU-managed meter swap and PTO

- Municipal governance. Tariff set by Ocala city council.
- Mid-sized muni. Different queue dynamics than Duke or SECO.
