Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) Solar & Net Metering Guide

Last updated: July 13, 2026 by Goldin Solar

Ocala Electric Utility — OEU — is the municipal electric utility for the City of Ocala in Marion County. OEU is administratively distinct from Duke Energy (which serves most of Marion County outside city limits) and SECO (which serves much of rural Marion). OEU’s service is concentrated within Ocala city limits.

Who Ocala Electric serves

OEU’s service territory covers:
City of Ocala — most/all addresses within city limits
Adjacent unincorporated — limited; confirm current boundary with Ocala Electric Utility

OEU is NOT Duke and NOT SECO. Marion County hosts multiple electric utilities — verify from your power bill.

If you’re an OEU customer, your net metering tariff is set by the Ocala city council, not the FL Public Service Commission.

Ocala Electric net metering: the basics

What makes OEU different from Duke / SECO

Permit + utility coordination for OEU customers

  1. Building permit with the City of Ocala building department
  2. OEU interconnection application — submitted in parallel
  3. HOA / ARC / historic-review approval if applicable
  4. Installation after permit issuance
  5. Final inspection by the building department
  6. OEU meter swap after final inspection
  7. PTO grant

Typical OEU timeline

End-to-end: typically 8 to 12 weeks (historic-district reviews extend timeline).
