The City of Tallahassee operates one of Florida’s largest municipal electric utilities — Tallahassee Utilities (also called the City of Tallahassee Electric Utility) — providing service to all customers within the Tallahassee city limits and some adjacent areas. As a municipal utility, Tallahassee’s net metering tariff is set by the Tallahassee City Commission, not the Florida Public Service Commission. The commission’s track record on energy/DER programs has historically been among Florida’s most progressive.

- Bill credit structure: Retail-rate net metering — exported kWh credited at full retail rate monthly. Credits carry forward month-to-month with no expiration during the annual cycle.
- Annual true-up: Anniversary-date reset — on the 12-month anniversary of interconnection, any remaining excess credits are reset to zero (not paid out). Design guidance: size for high self-consumption to avoid losing end-of-year credit balance.
- Interconnection application: Required before installation
- PTO process: Tallahassee-managed meter swap and PTO grant after final inspection
